WiP; Ad Mech Kitbash

Most 40K Bloggers and players have seen the above picture of Inquisitor Delphan Gruss (taken from the GW website). Many have lamented bitterly over the fact that he was only produced in the 54mm Inquisitor line for Specialist Games 'Inquisitor'. I know I did. I feel this is one of the best Ad Mech representations ever produced. Well..... I decided I would kitbash one.

One thing eBay is good for is the fact that not only can you find and buy the single bits you need for kitting somthing you have enlargable pic's so you can actually compare the parts you will need. I spent entire days looking at the above pic then looking at legs, arms. heads, ect.... before aquireing the needed parts for my attempt at a 28mm version of this great looking figure.

Now I have enough parts to begin (actually I already have).
Head; Dark Angle cowled Sgt.'s head
Body; Robed Dark Angle
Chest; Robed Dark Angle (no Astartes Plate visible save where the backpack mount is)
Pistol Arm; Empire Pistolier (wraped in Green Stuff to create the flowing robe sleeve)
I have since taken the right arm of a close combat servitor and will be grafting this onto place of the extreamly thin plastic hand and forearm holding the Gun.
Breeching Drill Arm; Needing a bare arm with approaite hose's and what looks like an augmentic mounting I chose the left arm of a close combat servitor.
(both servitors were the older ones without boots)
The pistol itself will be cut and have the drum magizine from an Ork Nob grafted in and the 'Pepperbox' four barrel muzzel of the pistol may be replaced with a bolt pistol barrel (not decided on this yet as I like the 'Pepperbox' look).
Lastly I recieved my order from Jeff at Dragon Forge (http://dragonforge.com/) for some of his excellent puter hose's and some of the brass chain to create the mechandrite arms and the hose harness across the figures chest and back. (I also have several of Jeff''s 'Wasteland II' bases, but I havent setteled on which one he will be on yet.)
Here and below you can see that I have the Chest and legs assembled. I am also cutting away the armored coller so that when I add the cowled Dark Angle Sgt. head I can form the needed coller out of green stuff.
I also have a Cadian rebreather to implace where I have already removed the heads mouth and nose.

The breeching drill came from an old WizKids Mechwarrior Collectable Figure Game piece called the "Violator". Its the only piece so far that isnt actuall 40k or WHFB. (And I still might replace it with a twist of Green Stuff) I also have several other bits but as he gets closer to compleation you will see them.
Bits still needed; Ad Mech Symbols, and a small book with straps on it. Any one who can point me toward one will recive my undiing thanks.

Do you collect what you play.....

......or play what you collect?

Two versions of the same question..........nope, just crazy Marine Corps logic. (Yes former USMC vet.)

I've played several other games, from AD@D, to Battletech, to Mechwarrior, and collecting 'Ugly Barbies' as my wife calls them is a must, somewhere along the line you break down and ...BAM....the next thing you know you have every concievable surface loaded with painted, and bare, highly detailed, or just lumps of what ever medium the pieces are made of litterilly everywhere. Kitchen, bedroom, loo, and guess what they are all the same ......dust catchers.

The above is the mark of the collector-centric player, 'Gotta-have-em-all' pokemon attitude.

One of the things I really like about Warhammer 40k are the wide range of nicely detiled figure, or boxes of parts with which to outfit your force any way you want.

The best thing about it, to me at least, are the wide array of line from which to pick and choose bit and pieces to create model youve seen description's of in books that are tottally playable as a 'counts-as' figure. This is a 'Kitbasher's' dream game.

Anyway back to the question.........Do you collect what you play......is your army evoleing along a single force, with no variation in or from what material you can find on that chapter, Regiment, Ordos......ect...

So you play Crimson Fists. If I look close will I find Chaos Marine, or Black Templar bits on your figures?

Do you play what you collect.....You want a Navel Armsman force. Do you use Mordians as your Petty Officers and Officers? Grenade launcher equipped Adeptus Arbites as Shotcannon toting armsmen? Catachan Death Worlders as armed press-ganged conscripts? A hugely mixed bag of figures, to make one cohesive force.

Or like me, elements of all of the above. I have the beginnings of a Marine Company. With a Navel Armsman force as IG allies. And a fair selection of Inquisitors with Adeptus Arbites as Stormtroopers.

And now the beginnings of an Ad Mech force has claimed a section of my work area. The center piece for this last group will be a 28mm fully kitbashed Inquisitor Magos Delphan Gruss, of which I now have about 85% of the pieces for.

Anyway. Do you Collect what you play or Play what you collect?

Must get the hang of this.....

...blog thing.

A WiP of my Captain.

First the metal parts: The shoulder pad with raised Dragon and power/lightning claw are from Chapterhouse Studios, the cloak is a Chaplin Xavier holdover, while the Stormshield is from one of the Chapter Masters (ebay, the rest of him was mangled beyond salvaging due to being shipped in a regular envelope which hung in some rollers during its journey from England)

The helmut top comes from n Empire knight head which has been cut down to fit onto a trimmed down Sm head.

This model also has a Chaos Champion chestplate. I wanted the chainmail skiting so I shaved off the Chaos star.

Now I just need to learn how to paint :P

With tomorrow being Rogue Trader Friday on From the Warp, I thought I would post a little something in that vein. Limited Edition Citidel miniture called "Imperial Thudd Gun". Now most Bloggers, Players, Collectors, and Kitbashers know of the "Squat Thudd Gun" . Four barrelled autocannon/heavy bolte, space dwarf that stands on the firing platform, yeah that one.

Well looking at http://www.collecting-citadel-miniatures.com/wiki/index.php/Imperium_-_Limited_Release i knew I had to aquire one of these. Well I got three of them, though one is lacking its drum magizine/breech block, gun shield and track unit (sub'ed in a unit from a Squat thudd gun). Anyway above are some pic's. I hope you enjoy them.
